Help Please

Hi guys, this is my first post.

Ive recently inherited a Myford ML7 lathe and i am just beginning to learn how to ue it. Today while facing off a piece of aluminium it left a small circle, despite going right across with the cutting tool. Its as if the tool is too hight? any ideas?

Thanks
Morgan

the little point left in the middle of the workpiece is because your tool is not on center, probably a little low. Shim the tool up until the nub is removed.
