I should have elaborated a little more about the damaged bayonet. These M9s with the heat treated but unfinished blades were made by Buck specifically for in-house testing. Buck ran them through some serious testing, to the point of failure. I have a few of them and I think they are an interesting addition to my collection.

So I assume that during these treatments only the blades were tested, as I don't see how the plastic handle could withstand the heat.
