Thinking about hosting build parties... looking for interest
Before I commit I need to make it clear that I have been swamped with work and I have three kids and way too many bad habits that have provided me with very little free time.... Just the same, I have a workshop full of tools needed to build AKs and I am thinking of hosting a build party sometime this spring.
Tools I have include the flat bending press, rivet press, barrel press, 12-ton H-Press, and most if ot all of the small tools that would be needed.
I am looking for interest at this time... I may also ask for a little money to help cover my cost in tools but given that I have about $1K or so in tools I think that $20/day per person and we will aim for small groups of no more then 6 per party will allow us to get them done fairly quick.
I live in SE PA just outside Philli PA (ZIP 19460).
I am not really ready to go as my garage is packed with tools that will need to be moved to a storage unit to allow us room to work... If there is enough interest I may get a jump on things....
ALSO... PLEASE NOTE, I do not have an FFL! I can NOT build an AK for you! You are paying for the rent of my tools and space. I will be glad to help and I will likely do one during the party as well....

Boyertown is real close... say about 30-minutes or less...
As you can see, I am renting out the flat jig (see other sticky post) until I get some time to get a work area ready for a group build... I also want to get my own first rivet build done from a flat so that I know what I am doing before get a party going....
I will insert our group builds into the rotation for the flat jig as soon as we set a time and we have about 6-guys (or gals :P as gfs or wives are welcome). My garrage just isn't all that large with all the tools and a 67 mustang taking up space...

Tell me about that drive... I was stupid and bought three MGs, a Bridgeport mill, Atlas Lathe, and a 500-lb Pantograph mill on your side of my state and did so on different occasions... That is WAY TOO LONG OF A DRIVE... trust me, I know!

well
the problem with fal building right now is that NO ONE has receivers. it sucks. i have a kit ready to go right now, but cant get a receiver thats worth using ( a DCI coonan or am IMBEL). there are others out there, but they are junk. coonans are the ebst to use, but there is like a 3-4 month backorder. they are preferred because they are us made, and thus counts toward compliance. mike

Makes me glad I got the two DSA receivers I did last year on the Group buy at FALFiles!
As for a build party at my house... it may be real tough with my schedule... Three kids (7, 5, 1) and with kids soccer and a garrage that needs way too much work to allow us to build makes it tough... Hell, I have not been able to get down to the basement to test the flat jigs out and send them back out and I was going to do that this afternoon...
I do have all the tools however and they are portable... I have everything for the FAL plus I am onlt really short the spot welded for doing AKs... I will have to see but darned time has been short lately...
Glad to see a couple YEAs however so we will see what we can do... perhaps I will just quite my job so I have more time for my habbits (I mean hobbies).
