new test mule!

As the title says, this is going to be my new test mule. Eventually its going to get a new paint job, a now stock, trigger, and ofcourse.....Barrel.

It will eventually become a 300whisper.

It is a stevens 200 in .223. It is all factory spec so far other than the weaver bases and quadlock rings holding a Konus scope. The Harris bipod was stolen off of my AR so that I could take the photo's.

I really want to mess around with refinishing, rebarreling, and a few other things. I'll keep everyone up to date.

Last thing, I know everyone is looking at it thinking "whoo hoo, its a stevens 200....." But this is my first bolt gun, and I'm kinda happy about it.

Thanks all, and sorry for the long post.

Thumbs up

Actually I redid one just like this and it turned out to be quite a shooter... Sharpshooter supply has a great trigger for these and if you wanna good barrel talk to Spook on this board he whip you up one that will fit your needs.

I have used both boyd and choate ultimate varmint stocks with excellent success. Don't you let anyone talk bad about your stevens, after you get it put together and tricked out it will hold its own...

Keep us in the loop....

Take care....

I did the same thing with a stevens 200 in .223 and love it.
I put on a sharpshooter supply trigger, rebarrel with a 17" pacnor stainless supermatch 1 in 6.5" twist, and a supersniper 10x scope. I still have the plastic stock which I dremelled out for the larger 1.055" barrel contour. I may change it out later or maybe not. I haven't had a chance to shoot it a whole lot yet due to work, travel, and getting ready to move but so far it looks really promising. Out of 6 different loads shot so far at about 50 yds it puts 10 rounds from each load through the same quarter size jagged hole. I am really looking forward to getting settled after my move and seeing what it will do at a couple hundred yards.
As a side note on the stevens 200, my brother has one in .223 that shoots very well out as far as 500 and 600 yards (as far as his scope will let him).

As a quick follow up, I kinda feel bad for making this into a project gun. Last week I loaded up some 69gr smk over 26gr of varget and CCI br4 primers and shot a .313 and .458 group at 100 yards. I heard that savages shoot well, but damn that was nice. Makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Anyways, still looking around for a barrel. Theres quite a few choices, so its kinda hard to make one. Also, I'm probably gonna need a new stock to hold the wider barrel. Would the varmint contour be stong enough to hold a can, or will a bull barrel be better?
