Cartridge case dimensions

Hi all - I'm a new user and I am having a Whisper built up. The finshed product will be a Remington 700 (former 223 BDL Varmint Special) I have a PacNor barrel 5 groove 1 in 7 twist and a target stock.

I expect that bolt action guns are not as picky as semi-autos as there is no gas system to contend with. In other words you don't have to worry about a load that doesn't cycle the action - as you do that yourself in a bolt.

I have read that the overall case length should be 1.355" rather than the 1.400" of the 221 Fireball. I have an internet source that shows cartridge case dimensions; refer to: http://ammoguide.com/cgi-bin/ai.cgi?...SnXU&catid=450 .... anyway the dimensional drawing shows the following:

1.070" - Base to begining of shoulder
.228" - Neck
1.400" - Overall case length

That means that the unstated length of the shoulder is .102 "

Now - if I change the OAL to 1.355" which of the above dimensions changes? Is the neck shorter, the shoulder steeper and shorter, or is the length from the base to the beginning of the shoulder shorter?

I know I'm only dealing with 45 thou here, but I want my brass to be right and I want to mic them to be sure.

Thanks for the info - if anyone has a dimensional drawing on PDF or something like that - I would appreciate it. My email is in my profile
