Tail Stock Adjustment

I have bought a Precision Machine 9x28 Lathe. I'm self taught and have about 40 actual work time on it. It took quite a lot tweaking to get accurate results.
The problem is: I found myself unhappy with bored holes being off center. I set the chuck and tailstock center dead onand corrected my material center punch mark. The first time I used it again for this purpose, same result -off center. I again recheck the centers and this time the horizontal was still on but also checked the vertical. There lies the problem. The tail stock on the carraige has a lower center line than the chuck and I have no adjustment that I can see to correct this. Can anyone suggest a happy ending to this. Jim

How much is the tailstock off? There is an adjustment for horizontal movement.
So you can cut a straight shaft. This piece does come apart. So make a shim to go between the base and the moveable upper.A real pita but again how much is it off? regards.

Thanks for the tip. I went braindead. I made some shims and reassembled. It's good to go. It was out by .007, now 0.000 Thanks again. Jim
