My First FAL project: Imbel FAL on Imbel Gear Lower

On to the Project:

To make a long story short, I have been sitting on an Imbel FAL kit for well over a year now (Perhap 2-years now) watching and waiting on the crime bill to die. Here are a few pics of my IMBEL FAL KIT...

I have purchased an Imbel Gear Lower...

I have been watching the laws planning a quick build if needed but planning to waite until the Crime Bill expires so I could keep my theaded barrel and Imbel Flash hider so I can mount my Imbel Bayonet.

IMBEL Kit #1 Built on Imbel Receiver

US MANUFACTURED PARTS I will be using

1. Gas Pistons: piston On HAND
2. Hammer: DSA HTS set (3 parts) FCG On HAND
3. Trigger: (Above) On HAND
4. Sear: (Above) On HAND
5, 6, 7: Penguin stock, grip, handguard set On HAND

Quote:
NOTE: Planned #7: Forearms, handguards: NOTE, I have a small fortune invested in receivers, parts kits, tools, and compliance parts. In this context, I have decided to go with a cheaper Compliance part for the initial build and I will replace the handguards with the DSA Railed forend later. The price of this one parts is more then all of the rest of the compliance parts so I would rather be able to build another parts kit for the price of this 1 part...
The Logic and Choices above

I went with the parts above for cost reasons and I have tons of FAL Mags that I want to be able to use without swapping mag parts. I also wanted to keep the original Flash hider so I can mount my Imbel bayonet later. I still plan to add the railed forend to one of my builds later but this way I can see which of the three FALs I am building will shoot best and customize that one with the rather expensive forend.

Cost Tracking:

Imbel #1:

Imbel Gear Lower: $209.00
Dan's Grade 3 Imbel Kit: $150 (Estimate)
Gas Pistons: $19.99
Hammer: DSA HTS set (3 parts): $64.95
Penguin Stock, Grip & Handguards: $30.00
-----------------------------------------
Total: $473.94

Imbel Build #1 is complete!

I didn't get to take many pics but I will run down the story of the build when I get a chance. The short version of the story is that I had a buddy come over and the two of use built most of my Imbel Fal on Saturday (9-11-04) as we managed to strip the parts kit and clean out all the sand and grit out of the parts. We then removed the barrel from the original recever stub and mounted the barrel. It took just a little persistance and a whole lot of brute force but we managed to get the barrel in and we got lucky as the barrel headspaced perfectly between the go and no-go headspace gauges with the original locking shoulder. We then worked on the lower receiver and got the US Parts installed ...

Last night (JUST AFTER THE START OF THE DAY THE CRIME BILL DIED), I went through and assembled the rest of the FAL and she is really sweet.

As described above: Imbel Gear lower; Dan's Grade 2 Imbel Parts Kit; Penguine Stock, Grip, Forend; DSA Hammer, Trigger Sear; Tapco Piston....

Note, threaded barrel with Imbel combination muzzle devise with Imbel bayonet!

I will try to type up a narative when I get a chance...
