Question AK47 300 Whisper?

Hello Everybody,
I am new to this forum and to semiauto rifles in particular. I have wondered if there is any practical way to convert one of the AK47 / AK74 type of rifles to 300 whisper? It seems like one of these chambered in .223 Rem could be converted, but I wonder how hard the conversion would be. Alternatively, would it be possible to handload or reload the regular (brass, of course) 7.62 X 39mm round to subsonic velocities? If any of this is possible, then I would be willing to jump through the legal hoops to apply for a (legal) suppressor to fit this rifle. To anticipate what some may say in response to this; yes, I know that you can simply buy an upper unit in 300 Whisper to fit an AR15,but I do not like AR15 rifles much. For me, the short, simple and reliable AK is more attractive. Any info will be appreciated.
