The original shallow fuller LanCay M9, of which about 300 were made, was made about in the middle of the first contract (around 1992-93). They were marked LanCay, not Lan-Cay. The bayonets pictured above were probably made sometime in the 2002-2003 time frame. Do the pommels have the manufacturer's name cast in them? What about the underside of the cutter plate? What is the date on the Fastex connectors?

M9 Lan-Cay USA SHallow Blood groove.

Hello Bill,
Hope you had a good time in New Orleans...after Katrina, I am sure you can understand why I was so concerned. I hope you like the Unmarked M9 you purchased. They are all gone now. Barry B. explained in a letter how he had these stored in the warehouse. They no longer have the old tooling to make this type of laser cut blade. Long gone. They were marked with the small lettering a long time back. I purchased these and they arrived as you see. The pommels are late and the cutter plate is late, the scabbards is mid product improved with the stones. The buckles are mixed dates 1998 thru 2002. The blades were made for the US Army but due the the .165 close tolerance shallow bood groove requirement, Barry indicated that he decided to not make a blood groove at all and stored these. They are to spec as far as the 7 in. plus lenght, .235 thickness etc. Just another Lan-Cay bayonet to add to the list. I will be posting more close up pictures of my collection...USMC Molle, USMC Phrobis, General Cutlery LanCay, LanCay first model with a blood groove, Lan-Cay Field Trials FT, etc. "Thank you" to all the M9 collector members who purchased some of these bayonets, Cad94, Rexmeyers, Harleymanrog, J. Lamberson, C. Samules etc. It is neat bayonet. E-mail me if you still have my address and I will send you a copy of the letter from Barry. Pancanal

I purchased one of these knives off EBAY the other week and got it today. It is a great looking knife and even if not a GI knife it is certainly a unique Lan-Cay M9 and I am glad to have one in my small collection!

I will get pictures soon of all my various knives... darned work has been crazy lately!

I have finally took the time to install a photoserver here on the forums and I have uploaded photos of this knife. This knife was obviously assembled in or after 2003 based on the fastex but I am just happy to have an example of a shallow fullered LanCay.

Here are my images:
