300 whisper/BLK bolt gun question

300 whisper/BLK bolt gun question......

Other then the Rem 700 and Savages, what other bolt rifles have you guys converted into the 300 whisper?

I have an old savage/stevens 222 bolt gun but I dont think its worth the trouble. But may make a few trades to get one I can work with.

Other actions are as follows. I also think they are better then the Remington.

Howa 1500/Weatherby Vargaurd
CZ 527
Zastava Mini Mauser (Interarms, Remington 799)

Check out the M1 version, You can upgrade the trigger guard,, the original 5
round clips still works and is nice to have in your pocket for a reload.

Has anyone tried the Ruger 77 for a Whisper/Blackout build?

Debating on this in either 762x39,338x39 or 300 whisper/blackout now:) Waiting on a few specs from a friend who has one in 762x39 before I decide on build.

There is a savage shlien prefit barrel in the classifieds for sale in 300 whisper, and I have a barreled action howa 1500 in 300 whisper/blackout now. Going to try to do some load testing in the next week when i get time.

300 build on Weatherby/Howa Action

TitleII,

Please share some of the specs on your Howa build. I have an itch to build a bolt whisper/blackout to go along with my AR, and just picked up a Weatherby Vanguard .223 to start things going.

I'm thinking of a medium to medium/heavy countour, relatively short barrel to keep it as handy as possible with a can, 1 in 8" twist, etc.

Would be a great sub-gun as well as a youth doe gun with supersonic loads.

Trying to do this on a reasonable budget and thinking of using the hogue stock.

This will be my first custom build, so any recommendations would be very helpful, and of course pics would make it that much better!

Mini Mauser Reminton 799's work well. I've done quite a number of them.
Unfortunately they are pretty hard to find now that remington quit importing them from Zastava.

CZ527's work really well. I've done a few of those too. The only gripe is the mag which needs some mods to work. Once done they are reliable, accurate and nice to shoot. The single set trigger is fantastic.

Sako L46 actions pop up now and then and work very well too. I don't think they are commercially available anymore but still something to look for.

I bought a 300 (whisper) that Spook had built . Had a 1/8" SS barrel, cut rifling - Rock if I remember right . It was built on a Howa action . Put a EGW pic rail on it. Shoots 220 mk around 1/2" . 18" barrel length . Put it in a B&C varmint stock . I would recommend a Varmint contour . I have a heavier barrel which makes it heavier than is needed . Put a Vortex Viper scope on it and it works well . If you need some help, contact Spook and he'll give you good advise and can build what you want without breaking the bank or taking 6 months .
