16 inch 300BLK barrel, does it need a FH or brake?

For years I wanted a AR15 300 Whisper, but I've not been one to wildcat, it was always nice to be able to go in a store and buy ammo if I had not spent the time behind the reloading bench.

The 300 BLK I think will be a good splash. My first barrel will be for my Daughter, a 16 inch for hunting/Predators. I'll snag a couple of SBR's next year and put cans on them for house rifles.

Biggest question is on the 16 inch gun, do I need a Flash hider? I have no idea if it will be a big flashing gun due to the longer barrel and small powder charge. The rifle won't be used for any 3 gun(I don't think), so I'm ruling out a muzzle brake for less noise to the shooter. Maybe a nice target crown will help with tighter groups, this gun will see some bench time(100-300m) just to get my Daughter more trigger time. I think if I ever sell the upper or rifle, it will be an easier sell if it looked more like an M4 with a threaded front end.

95% of the loads will be 125gr Ballistic tips, and I'm sure I'll load up some 220's for giggles.

I can't stand brakes. The Whisper has a very mild recoil, so no it does not need one. I don't know how old your daughter is, but my seven year old girl hunts with my 16" suppressed Whisper. She hasn't had any problems. I think it's the noise more than the recoil that causes the flinch factor. I would get your suppressor now. I wish my father would have put one on my guns when I was a kid or handed me hearing protection. Tinnitus is a bitch. Brakes can ruin hearing in one shot.

One I have to agree with Alleycat. I hate muzzle breaks I don't see the point in making a gun loader. If it recoils to much move to a milder caliber. Also if you are not in combat there is no need for a flash hider and I don't think they work as well as people think they do. If I want to not have the muzzle flash from my firearm seen I will use a suppressor. My daughter has become spoiled and does not like shooting anything that is not suppressed, of course I am getting to be the same way.
