Anybody ever play with the BIG (.510) whispers ?

Thinking on taking the plunge and building a .510 bolt gun. Any comments suggestions or real world experience ?

Nick does it all and knows what he is doing. I shoot mine both ways, but I like it alot more suppressed. I build the suppressors for nick. Give him a call and tell him Brian told you to call. I think right now he is building a .510 on a sharpes rifle. Call him and talk to him 330-683-0380

it aint bullets its bore

two things, one: things like the 600 and 700 nitro's are for "sporting purposes" and receive an exemtion that way, secondly I have heard stories that the ATF has at times used a .5" rod to see if it will fit down the bore. .510 is the diameter in the grooves and I dont think the actual "bore" (on top of the lands) is large enough to accept a .5 rod. there was a discussion on this on tha AR forums, as it pertain to the .50 beowulf.
A call to the ATF tech branch would likely net you a better answer. Be warned though, things you have "heard" will not keep you out of prison, nor will a phone conversation. to be admisable and defensable, It will need to be in writing.

Montana state law limits rifle ga to .6" - it's state by state.

I've got a SA shorty with a fast twist (9.5) barrel on the way - for sub-sonic and sabots. No muzzle break (not needed for sabots). No can for many years. I'm primarily worried about excessive case volume. I may wack off an inch of the case and have Larry make me a custom gun for the shortened 50 BMG case.

I've been told optics cleaning tissue is a good filler (if you don't use a can).

i'm playin with somethin' similar

I'm tryin to shorten a 460 weatherby case with a 650 grn BMG bullet into a cz 550 action, anybody play with this already? It's basically a .50 peacekeeper shortened to fit in the magazine well instead of just single shot. Ideas are helpful here, thanks

you might pick up a COW (Cartridges of the world) and have a look at the old 50 whisper, was exactly that.... a short 460 weatherby with BMG bullets in a standard "long" action bolt gun.
