Buckmaster 184

Not to burst any bubbles but here is my professional opinion about the Ole 184. As a retired USN Diver we are issued many different knives through-out our careers. The 184 was one of those of many. I have to say next to the USN MK3MOD0 it is the worst and most useless of all my issued gear. I actually had to take off 2 pounds off my weight belt to carry the damn thing. Since your knife is not on your weight belt, there wasn't many options.Forget about a leg carry too. It was to big and bulky. The compass and "pins" were utterly useless. For overland use the size and weight did not ratio with functionality. The knife did keep a good edge but was not worth much else except to get in the way. The sheath I did like and in fact put a Kabar in it for most of my water work. The knife to me was novelty turned on by the Rambo movies. I can see why it was discontinued. For its size I would prefer a machete, for its weight a side arm and for its look... scares me more.

All said and done if anyone wants one, look on ebay. I am selling mine. I need a good pair of Steiners for the hunting season. Low reserve too.
