How in the world do you remove the guard from an m7? I would like to replace the guard on mine. It is held in place by a retangle horseshoe peice. I cannot figure out how to remove that "lock" peice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Dave
That horseshoe shaped piece is not meant to be removed. It is pressed in place and you would have to cut it to get it out. If the guard is so bad that you must replace it, you'll have to cut the retainer and then devise a comparable piece to hold the replacement guard in place.
This is true. When I received my m7 and began to disassemble it I ran into the same issue. The only way is to cut it off. What i did was save the u shaped steel piece and take measurements to make a replacement. I used a piece of cold rolled steel. Very difficult to replace as the guard must be absolutely solid when finished, but definitely possible. I did it while making a custom bayo. for a friend of mine. The bayonet is currently in Iraq. Good luck!
I forgot to mention in my previous post that you'll also have to remove the pommel; another part that wasn't meant to come off. By the time you're through, it would be easier and cheaper to buy a new M7. They can be found for $20-25.
