CZ-527 build as a 300-221

I know amafrank did this once because I saw posts on another forum about barrel threading. Frank are you around?

Does anyone have experience with this? I talked to a guy who was plenty happy with his.

It's a micro-mauser action (scaled down in every dimension), light, the ones I played with were very smooth, detachable box mag is standard, and the set trigger seems pretty nice (push forward to 'set' then it has a very light pull).

The only thing I heard about them is the mag needs a modification to accept the 30 cal bullets, but I don't know what needs to be done. Also, I heard the 7.62x39 mags might work with no mods.

Anyone?

The rifles are very nice and make a great whisper platform. The mags are indeed a problem though. They have guide ribs to hold a .223 bullet centered so that needs to be worked out in order to get .30 cal bullets in the same space. I don't know if 7.62X39 mags will fit. The action is very solid, the extractor is outstanding and the adjustable single/set trigger makes this one a sweetheart to shoot.
Hope that answers the question

Frank

Frank,

Thanks. I kinda got into the 223 rifle on a whim so I'm glad to hear it's a good host.

Can you explain a little bit about the mag modification?

Thanks

This is an AR mag with the same mod

They do the same thing to the CZ. It's not necessary in the AR IHO, but I hear the CZ needs it. The CZ is BAD ASS by the way.

Hmmmm.....

I understand the idea, I'm not sure if I like the mag being open like that though. It looks to me like the cut wouldn't completely be covered by the magwell.

I'll have to think about this for a bit.

Alleycat, sent to a PM.

Did not like the looks of mine at first, but so far no problems. You are correct it is not covered by the magwell---has about 1/2 to 5/8" open. With 4 rds in the mag and you can, (if looking hard), see the bottom of the follower.

It works very well on mine, and I am not complaining about it, quite the opposite

There not much choice if you are using the 223 action.

If you intend to use the 7.62x39 action, then keep it in that calibre but with a .308 barrel instead of .311 and with a 1 in 8" twist, then you can use the 7.62x39 mags.

Cz is producing this rifle in 221 fireball, 222, 223, 2o4 and 7,62x39: each action has its well machined at different length and magasines are all differents in lenght and /or width.

d-mon, You sure about that? I just talked to a guy that says he has both a 223 and 7.62 and says the magwells are identical, and while the 7.62x39 mag does fit in the rifle perfectly, it does not hold a 223 case, whisper or not.

As far as the mag cuts are concerned I'd be much more comfortable if the cuts were not open to the world. I'll patch them up if needed.

Here's one I had done a few years ago. PacNor did the rebarrel job for me. Only drawback to the CZ527 is when it comes to scope mounting. Gotta use very high rings for the scope to clear the bolt knob. Other than that, great little rifles.

Second picture is of the modification that must be done to the mag to allow those fat .30 cal bullets to fit in a .22 cal space (the bullets pictured are 220 gr Sierra Pro-Hunters). I had my local machinist modify the mags. Very simple to do. He just chucked it up in the end-mill and milled out the dimple. I had him only machine down so far so that the relief-cut doesn't show below the line of the weapon when the mag is in place. That dropped the mag capacity to four instead of five.
