Remington 700 Ejection

I have a 300 whisper built on a Remington 700 action. I am having the same problem as many with case ejection. When I pull the bolt back sometimes the fired case falls back into the action.

Someone had recomended that I increase the distance the ejector comes out of the bolt to put more pressure on the case and this would eliminate this issue.

Does anybody have any hints as to how to do this or can anybody reccomend a good smith?

Have the same problem with a Savage. Eject it briskly and it comes out - slowly and it will fall in the action. Does yours fall back reguardless of how you do it? The original gun was for a 223. 223 brass is long enough for the extractor to keep a better "purchase" on it during extraction. The short 300 brass is pushed over sooner and hence comes out from under the extractor. Even have to load my 180"s single shot due to loading the bullet in reverse making the OAL very short...200 up loaded normal is ok..

Remove the ejector and carefully extend the notch to the rear so that the ejector will extend further forward. This maintains pressure on the empty cartridge longer so that it will stay against the side of the chamber and receiver until it clears the ejection port. If you lose pressure on the ejector the cartridge will fall out of the bolt face and not eject. Take it a little at a time until you've got reliable functioning. If you take off too much the incoming round won't push the ejector back and will hang up on the bolt face.

Thanks. I tried it and it still does not work. I have ordered and wolff extra power ejector spring that should be here tomorrow.

I worked on it some more tonight and I took too much metal off the ejector and it would not chamber. My extra power ejector spring and new ejector should be here tomorrow so I will try again and post an update.

Thanks for all the help. I got a new ejector from brownells along with a wolff extra power spring. I started filing the bottom of the notch on the ejector with a hand file taking a little material off each time. After about 5 or 6 tries I got it to eject the spent cartridge and not drop it.

Took it to the range this weekend and it works perfectly.
