Barrel twist

What twist rate do I need for 240 grain bullets in a 10.5" barrel?

What about a 220 grain bullet?

For 308 bullets a 1:8 twist works well for th 200, 220 and 240's

Thanks, the barrel I picked up is 1:8 so I should be all set. I was hoping 240's would be ok. I'll be running a YHM 7.62 can and certainly want to avoid any baffle strikes.

Sorry that I didn't mention in my original post that it was a .308 bullet. That would have been important...

Yhm 7.62 & 300 Whisper

How does your combo work? I have the YHM 7.62 can and am very happy with it and 180gr 7.62x51 subsonics. I am looking at a 300 Whisper AR in about a 10" configuration as a new project also. Just looking for feedback.
Thanks, Brandon.

Do the 1-8 twists still shoot the sonic 125s well?

I shoot a tc encore 1-8. It will stack 125 nbt well under an inch.

I can't tell you yet. I just got the dies in from Midway and haven't loaded anything up yet. My YHM can isn't in yet either (on order).

I'll post an AAR when I can. I have high hopes but I'm completely new to the 300 so we'll see how it goes. In fact, this will be my first wildcat.

My setup so far:
10.5" Noveske 1:8 stainless barrel (gas port in pistol location)
ASA side charge upper receiver
YHM free float customizable handguard
RRA registered SBR lower
Magpul PRS or Vltor Emod (I have both, haven't decided)

I intend to complete with:
YHM 7.62 Stainless suppressor (on order)
tp555's 3-position gas block
JP adjustable trigger
Medium power scope (thinking 2-7 or 3-9 range)

I hope to be able to shoot both 240 SMK's subsonic and 125's supersonic. We'll see how it goes.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you right now. Got my rifle built (Savage bolt action) and have the dies. I've loaded up some 240 Matchkings and got them right around 1050 fps, where I want them. It took me 8.5 grains of VV N110 with an 18" barrel. I just loaded up some 125 grain NBT's yesterday, but the wind has been ridiculous around here lately, to the point of blowing my chronograph over, so no point in testing for accuracy right now. Still waiting on my can though. It will probably be another month or two before it even gets built, then I begin the wait for the Form 4. Lots of waiting.

Any progress on your build?

Just curious to see if you have completed your build. I am very interested in the ASA side charger but am having a hard time finding anyone with a review of them. When you complete your build, please let us know your thoughts on it.
