Question about building on a Rem 700?

A friend of mine gave me a Rem 700 short action he had laying around and I want to build a 300 whisper on it but I have a few questions? First I have heard that the Remington 700 is not a good choice for the whisper because of extraction issues. I have no experience with this so anyone who has any experience with Rem 700's and the whisper let me know your thoughts. I want around a 16" barrel with a 1:8 twist and I would like to know if anyone can recommend a barrel manufacture and someone to do the barrel work for me. I am mainly interested in shooting subsonics with a suppressor and accuracy is my main concern with this project. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

extraction and ejection issues with the whisper in the 700 are hit and miss. I've seen a number of guns that had no problems at all but also seen some that had nothing but problems. I built one that kept dropping the fired case as soon as it cleared the chamber. I extended the reach of the ejector pin and that helped a lot. It still drops the cases occasionally. Basic rule of thumb is to have a go at it and see what you end up with. The ejector extension will help a lot in any case so I'd do that to start with. Just mill the notch in the ejector a bit further back on the ejector pin to allow it more travel. That keeps the case held against the extractor longer .

i have several hundred rounds through my Rem 700-based Whisper and i have never had a FTE. all i'm saying is that in my case i never had the problem. i know of two other guys with 700-based Whispers, and i never heard of a problem with their rifles either. we are all using Whisper brass made from once-fired mil surplus Lake City ammo. i don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Try www.pac-nor.com for your barrel. You should be able to get the complete barrel including chambering and threading the barrel for your suppressor. Also fitting and headspacing to your receiver if you choose.

Have a Rem700 .300Whisper, no extraction issues at all. Also have a close friend with almost the same exact gun built by the same smith and his is 100% also. We both use a Hart barrel in 1:8". Sub MOA so far with supersonics, have to work up a new subsonic load though. My on hand loaded sub ammo is for my 9" AR and is supersonic in this 16" gun.

I have a rem. 700 .223 boltface, built in 30-221 & it is just an awesome piece of suppressed subsonic machinery.
I had ( No ) Extraction problems at all with the Rem. as a donor action for a build.
( I DID Have ) bad Feeding problems from the Mag. box.. It would hang-up bad from the Bigfatass Sierras right in the chamber mouth area on the bolt push to chamber a round. And only way to make it 100% reliable was to shoot it. then take the empty brass and Mic. the webbing at the bass of the fired cartridge, Then take the barrel off again and do the Max amount of chamfering on the Breech/cut of the chamber mouth edge allowable for not to compromise the integrity of the Brass under pressure when fired.
Now it Feeds 100% from the .223 Rem. blind Mag. box with 240 sierra's . .. <|; ) .
