Primers and load data Help

I am going to load 150 grain Hornady sst bullets in reformed 221 brass and need suggestions as to what load to use for a TC encore 18inch barrel for coyotes. Can I use any small rifle primer or should I stick to Rem 7 1/2. The remingtons are hard to find in my neck of the woods. This is for supersonic loads as that I have no suppressor it is not legal to hunt with in my state. Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I emailed JD at SSK and he basically told me I was not a customer which is the truth I cut costs and got a TC Custom shop barrel. Any else got a response like that? Didnt mean to offend him or maybe I was wrong to ask for load info from him.

Thanks fellas for the help. My main concern now is about primer selection. I would have to mail order the Remingtons and pay xtra shipping out the ya know what. By the way I shot JD another email and let him know that I had bought one of his barrels back in 1994 and he responded much kinder. He is an ok guy and I know he is the one who invented the 300 whisper so he should be a little picky of his copy right. Any help with the primer selection would be much appreciated.

Any small rifle primer will work. I use CCI 450 and winchester small rifle for my 300 whisper AR 15.

Screw JD Jones and his high horse. Sure, he 'invented' the .300 Whisper, but I use the term 'invented' loosely. Joe Apache developed the .30 Apache in the 60's, which used a cut-down .223 case to accept a .30 cal bullet. Then there was the .30 IMP, which used the .221 Fireball case. The concept is nothing new. JD was just smart enough to copyright it and use it in the proper applications. He certainly isn't the only game in town, although he has tried to make it so.

And, no, I'm not a competitor, nor a gunsmith. Just a .300 Whisper user that buys his dies from Redding and gets his .300W AR15 uppers and bolt action rifles built from others with smaller egos and smaller invoices.

For the record I did not want to slam JD Jones but hey I too am a Redding and TC customer mainly to cut cost. I got two young kids and an ample lust for new toys -so cost is everything when ya got the wife on your rear to keep it under control. Thanks again fellas for the info.

lbarcher34. Use Rem 7 1/2 or CCI Benchrest primers. After 3 years of mucking around with this I have found them to be more consistent ignition, and I believe they are a little "milder". regards. leadlauncher

I just worked up a nice load for my 14" TC Contender, using 125 Nosler Bullets. 18.4 grains W296, Winchester Small Pistol Primers, reformed 221 fireball brass, overall length-as long as I can, and still chamber the round and keep the bullet in the case.

This is maximum load, but shoots very flat. 2200 FPS out of my 14"barrel. Ballistics are that if you sight in 1 " high at 100 yards, it is only 5 inches low at 200 yards, and never is above the point of aim more than 1.1 inches.

Shot a 1 1/4 " 3 shot group at 100 yards with this load/gun.

I don't think you will be able to get a 150 to shoot that flat, and 125's should be plenty for coyote. I am going to try them on Deer next weekend.
