Phrobis M11 EOD knife?

This all startd with a question:

I just purchased a Phrobis III M9 Bayonet (4-lines).

It has the M11 guard, pommel, and tool pouch. Can this be an authentic USGI issue or is it a bastardized blade? The scabbard has the dual slots for straps.
Thanks,
CE

I replied that I believed that the M-11 conversion was a later modification to the M9 bayonet and I did not believe that Phrobis made knives in this configuration...

I tried to do a search for more info but there does not seem to be a whole lot of info on this. If anybody can help I wold love to know more info...

As an aside, I just looked at EBAY for an example that might help and is an example of the M11-EOD parts that I assume you are describing:

Here is a link to the auction

And here is an example of the M11-EOD tools pouch that I assume you are describing:

Finally, here is a complete LanCay M11-EOD knife kit:

According to the seller on EBAY...

Quote:Tool Pac is the official pack to come with the M11 EOD knife, LanCay is the only manufacturer of the M11 or the Pack.

Which might well be correct as these are parts that I do not remember seeing back 5 to 10 years ago...

Here is an article that describes the EOD conversion...

http://www.usmilitaryknives.com/reject_articles.htm

Read under the heading "The U.S. Military’s New Knife"

This article makes it pretty clear that this is a conversion that started in 1996 by LanCay... hope this helps and thanks for the question as I learned something new today!

In reply to the post above I got this:

Iryll@htx.com wrote:Just sent out the pictures of the M-9 I have. It was told to me that it is a factory upgrade, that was tested for Seal team and EOD use, as a diving knife not a Bayonet. It was later scrapped by the factory. My guess was when the military decided on the replacement for the Kaybar, that cheap black plastic knife the Navy decided upon.
The pictures are of the diving knife I used for half of my diving career.

Here are Iryll's pics:

As an aside, I do know that Phrobis made a dive version of the M-9 and I need to look through the huge assortment of files that I have saved over the years to find the photos... If I can find them I will post pics here for a comparision but I do not believe the dive knives used this style sheath and the handle was different as well...

I followed the auction, the knife was indeed a Phrobis with the LanCay M11 Pommel, Guard and Pack installed. Probably just someone who wanted to use the bayonet as a knife so they mixed the parts. It is still a great knife and the LanCay Tool Packs are exceptional. Handmade at their factory they can sell for 40.00+ by themselves. Enjoy the knife!

Iryll's dive knife looks largely correct, as compared to the one pictured on page 339 of Homer Brett's book "The Military Knife and Bayonet". However, Homer shows the knife with a black handle and black M9A1
