Ontario M10

Guess everyone has seen the Ontario M10 bayonet. From what I see, it is a tan M9 w/ergonomic grip. Although it is a strictly commercial bayonet, what does the Forum think about it? Does it rate a place in one's M9 collection (although it would depend on how expansive or inclusive you consider your collecting interest to be)? Comments welcome...

I felt that it was close enough to the M9 that I have one in my collection also.

Thanks for your input guys. Maybe if I find a cheap deal on one, will consider adding it.

To be honest, when I decided to start collecting bayonets I choosed to collect the M9 only.
To justify the great amount of money I sometimes spend for a single bayonet, there is no space in my collection for something else (chinese copies or bayonets based on the M9 design), or I will not be able to afford more M9s.
For example, I was offered a Marto bayonet (the same design as the trial one), but I declined.
Then came the decision about the multi-colored LanCays.
I decided that, as for the commercial models, it was better to focus the collection on the variations that I liked more.
So I preferred to focus on the commercial Buck/Marto M9s as I like them more than the Lan-Cay and they were made in lesser variations.
At the end it is a personal decision.

I agree with you, Carlo. I was initially unaware of the variety and number of M9 variations a collector might consider to build a collection. Bill Porter's council & Homer Brett's "Military Knives & Bayonets" book helped greatly to provide some guidance. I finally decided to concentrate on Phrobis/Buck military & commercial patterns. There was great variety here, and they were of the highest quality. However, shortly I modified my original intent and opted to look for military contract examples, trials pieces, and anything for the USMC (which of course includes many M9s of LanCay manufacture. Thus far I have been able to avoid the myriad of multi-colored Lan-Cay commercials, except for a tan, orange, and (yes) the most ugly Air Force blue!
