1/8 AR gun here as well. Built on a DPMS lower, using M1S flat top upper.

Hi;
First post. I'm intrigued by this round and it's family. I ordered a barrel from Fox Ridge (TC) for my Encore just today.
I'm looking for something quiet to hunt whitetail in my back fields. Each year they build more and more homes in the area. Not that what I do is illegal, but the noise of a full-boat .308 at 06:30 sends mothers of small children ballistic (so to speak!). I'd just like to avoid the hassle with any neighbors and/or the police.
I'd like to hear from folks who have hunted with this round loaded subsonic, and how effective it is in the real world.
Are folks happy with the Model 1 brand upper A3?
I have a Colt Sporter "Competition H-BAR", Ser. CH003xxx that was made about the time of the "Ban". It has a screw-on flash suppressor, but no bayonet lug. Can anybody tell me if this is a pre-ban or post-ban gun?
Thanks.

Hi all,
I'm shooting a Contender with a SSK 10" bull barrel (1:8 twist) primarily using subsonic loadings with Sierra 220 gr and 240 gr MatchKings. Brass is Rem 221 Fireball, primers are Federal, and dies are Hornady. I originally got into the 300 whisper for the sole purpose of using it to develop suppressors (I’m a part time gunsmith and Class II manufacturer). However it is such a pleasure to shoot and the accuracy is so impressive, I wish I would have bought it a long. Most of the loads I’m shooting were developed using Quick Load and, so far, the most accurate has been Vit 3N37 with a Sierra 220 gr MK at around 1000 FPS (this load yields a load density of around 61%). The extreme velocity spread for this load has been around 12-15 FPS and group size has been around 3/8” to 1/2” at 50 yards (I currently have an Aimpoint M2 1X with a 4 moa dot which hampers accuracy testing at much beyond 50 yards). Another powder that has tested well so far has been Alliant Herco with the same bullet (load density is around 81% and extreme spreads around 10-15 FPS).
I now have 300 Whisper reamers in house and the next project will be a suppressed version built on a Rem 700 SA platform. I’m glad to know there’s finally a place for the Whisper crowd to hang out.

my latest project is almost done, just need to duracoat the barrel.
16.5" PacNor 1:7 twist 5 grove barrel done by Marty at Teppo Jutsu in 30/221
My SWR can. I also have been working with the 338 Specter, very cool, 338 subsonic in a AR platform.

WOW! A forum for the Whisper.
I have been shooting the 300 Whisper for over 10 years but never new about this forum till recently.
I have one of JD's early uppers (I think it's #6) and a Contender carbine bbl as well. Also have one of his early cans (my first NFA purchase) that fits both guns.
Mostly shoot the 220gr Sierra MKHP in Rem 221 FB brass with Rem 7½ primers and AA 2015, H110, AA #9 powders with very good results.
Played with the Nosler 125 gr Ballistic Tips with sub MOA accuracy.
Working up loads with the Sierra 220 RN now.
Lastest projest gun is a bolt action Rem 788 with Hart 1:8 bbl in a McMillan A2 stock that feed from an AR-15 20 rnd mag and fitted with Joe Gadinni's excellent SWR Omega can but am contemplating having a custom can built that uses 45 ACP baffle stacks but bored for 30 cal made of aluminum with either stainless or Inconel first baffle and stainless threaded rear cap.
Thanks for the great forum.....there is always so much more to learn and share and I'm sure I'll benefit from the experience.

Let me know if you get a good load for the 220RN, I have not been able to get a good group past 50m(in an AR and bolt gun platform) and have had issues with them feeding.
I have discusssed a lightweight can tuned for subsonics with SRT, using the Aztech baffle system. He has the specs ready to go. I am just waiting for my other cans to clear the ATF before I commit to another can.

my rifle
my rifle is as follows, remington SA trued and blueprinted,20inch lilja 8twist,hs thumbhole stock,hs magazine kit, nightforce bases and rings with a leupold MK4 4X14X50 M1 with the side focus and illuminated reticle.have a suppressor being made and just waiting for the ATF to give me the approval. So far I have shot it with factory corbon 220subs ans was very impressed with the way it shot.I did shoot some 125noslers with H110 and got some great groups and 2350fps,i am planning on working up a load with the 150nosler accubonds this week for a upcomming hog hunt. I have to say its one of the most fun rnds i have ever shot, its hard to not go through some serious ammo with it.

300 Whisper
I have an 18" SSK Carbine. I primarily shoot 125-130 grain jacketed bullets over 20 grains of 296. It is very accurate and easy to shoot. I have recently been playing around with some 200 grain cast sub sonic rounds, they are not MOA but stay inside of 2" at 50 so are fun to plink with and smack the steel plate with authority. I plan to shoot a feral hog with it week after next, 125 BT @ 2300 fps, should work out well.

Ordered a 300whisper encore barrell today for my encore(I bought a frame today-No barrell in stock :( ) . I got an 18inch Fox Ridge barrell as that was a little easier on my budget than the ssk version. Wow cant wait till it gets here. I plan on shooting the factory Corbons till I can get set up to reload it. I sadly cant use a suppressor in my state for hunting which is what I want it for anyway. I will post when the barrell arrives to let every one know how it all works out.
