Terminal performance of 147gr FMJ on hogs?

Got a Florida hog hunt coming up next month. This will be an "eradication effort", we're tasked with eliminating all hogs, regardless of size, from a designated area, in preparation for replanting with native plant species.

I have a near maximum supersonic load with a 147gr GI FMJ bullet, pushed by 17.0gr of W296. Most shots to be taken inside of 30 yds.

Whaddya think the terminal effect on the hogs (piglets to fairly sizeable boars) will be? The objective is of course: instantaneous one-shot kills.

I've got time to work up a new super-hog-killer concoction, but if this one will do the job - why bother???

I'd appreciate feedback from you guys who have actual blood and bone experience with Whisper on hogs, deer, bear, etc.

Thanx,
tpfdchn

30 yd and pick your shots, head and neck, you should do fine. Hogs are tough!!!!! Have had 30 lb pigs run off after a 140 fmj 7mm-08 through the lungs. Not every time, but it happens. High in the shoulder is a real stopper. You did not say what you were using. Send me your addy and I'll get some220 gr. bullets from 3 different companies in the mail to you. No cost, just good bullets...Good luck-need any help?

The 147gr FMJ is a poor performer out of a .308 so at 300 W velocities it will be even worse. It will work with perfect shot placement, which you should be able to do at 30 yards, but poorly hit hogs can charge you. I'd use something better.

If I was using my 300 for hogs it would be with the 110gr TSX (Barnes now has one specifically designed to expand at low velocity) or the 125gr Nosler BT.
