New to this forum, need some help

I tried loading for a 300 Whisper Contender barrel made by SSK. I am using a set of Redding dies 300/221. I have been able to chamber a piece of brass without any difficulty. After loading and seating a Sierra 125 gr prohunter, I cannot close the action on the Contender. I am down to an OAL of 1.900 which seems to be below the max OAL of 1.915 from the loading manual. I cannot adjust the dies to seat any lower than this as I have run out of adjustment. What gives here? Thanks in advance for your expertise and help.

I'm not familiar with the Contender action but have you measured neck thickness? If you're forming from .223 brass you might have to neck turn the cases to be able to chamber.

i concur with sami, could be a tight chamber and you may need to turn or use 221fb brass instead. Have you tried factory ammo also?

No, I don't have any factory ammo to try in the chamber. I have both 221 FB brass & 223 brass formed for the 300 Whisper but these were the 223 brass that I had tried.

Try the 221 brass and if that chambers you need to neck turn the .223 brass. If you like, send me your mailing address and I will put in a mail a few brass made from .223 that is neck turned to 0.010" thickness.

Also you might try making the oal even shorter. Have one contender barrel that has a really short neck. Keep lowering it down on a dummy round and trying to close the action, even all the way down to where it would be no throat. I know! Who wants one that short? Easy test, if that does not work there is a good chance it is neck thickness like they said above.
