Savage 25 Factory Rifle in 5.7x28mm with 1-9"

Savage is now selling a bolt action rifle chambered in 5.7x28mm. It comes standard with a 1-9" twist. Looks like a 22 Whisper to me.
Doing a stability calculation it seems like it will stabilize a 65gr sierra Gameking. With a 22 can. Talk about a quite varmint gun. And I think it would perform better than the anguilla sub sniper 60gr 22lr. I've heard those are hard to stabilize in standard barrels.

Muzzle velocity: 1,070 fps
Bullet length: 0.85"
Bullet weight: 65 gr
Barrel twist: 9.0"
Bullet caliber: 0.224"
Stability factor: 1.04

The bullet is marginally stabilized

fpjeepy05,

I don't see this caliber listed for a Savage 25. Where did you find it? Is there a left handed version?

Thanks.

Sorry I forgot the link

Also ballistics for the FiveSeven online are mostly for the 5"pistol barrel. Bullets from a 24" barrel could perform a lot better.

I was concidering this in a few months when i recover from x-mas, wondering if the 5.7x28 and 223 use the same mag/reciver internals ect. If so it may be a decend canidate for a 300 whisper/5.7x28 switch barrel gun. Never handled a model 25 so I dunno about the feasibility this idea.

The case dimensions are quite a bit smaller on the 5.7x28. It wouldn't be a simple barrel swap.

Since it has the same twist rate as the 223 version why bother with it? You could use 223 loads as described here: http://www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=4712 .
