Contender 300 whisper accuracy

Just wondering what is considered the normal accuracy for a all those T/C users out there chambered in 300 whisper / 300-211? I'm getting 5 shot 1" groups at 100yards with 240gr MK at subsonic speeds in my 1-8' twist carbine......and I haven't tried anything supersonic yet.

That sounds like pretty good accuracy to me.

How long is your barrel?

Is it suppressed?

What powder are you using?

Contender

Hi there,
Barrel is 18" long & yes a suppressor is used. I guess I was a little dissapointed as bolt action rifles in the same calibre often shoot 1/2" groups. Still I doubt a Hog or a deer will ever know the difference. I'm using ADI 2205 powder which I believe is sold under the Hodgon H4227 banner. A little more experimenting may help yet to tighten those groups.
Just waiting on getting my scope back so will post results from the field effectiveness of 240gr subs on some game hopefully soon.

My thought is that a Contender will be just as accurate as a good bolt gun, but you will never shoot as tiny of groups with it as the bolt gun. My reasoning for that is that you have to break open the gun and load rounds after every shot of the group. Each time, you have to get repositioned for the shot. Not having the rifle settled into your rest or getting the same eye position or cheek weld exactly the same for each shot will have a dramatic difference on group size. With a bolt gun, you don't have to lift your head off the stock or move the position of the gun.

What suppressor are you using and how quiet is it? What dies and what technique are you using on your cases?

Contender

The cases were simply neck sized only as they were once fired cases from case forming. I'm still learning the whole reloading thing so still have a lot to take on board. Still I'm happy with the results to start with.
The suppressor is a lightweight aluminium item made here in New Zealand by a company called Gunworks. I found the rifle suprisingly quiet - not much louder than a 22lr subsonic & suppressor. Not much different to dropping a small book on a table.
