Anybody know more about this knife....

PHROBIS MILITARY KNIFE

Note: Final winning Bid price was: US $183.50

This knife looks like a CUK to me... anybody know for sure? I am asking the seller for permission to use his images here... We will see?

OK, I got an e-mail from the seller and permission to use the images here...

Here is the description in the auction:

Quote:
PHROBIS MILITARY KNIFE

PHROBIS INT. SPAIN (BUCK)

U S A PAT. - 4,821,356

BLACK HARDWARE AND BLADE

I HAVE LOOKED AT M-9 KNIFES TILL I CAN NEARLY SEE NO MORE, AND I STILL AM YET TO SEE ONE WITH A CROSS GUARD LIKE THIS ONE IT LOOKS LIKE IT HAS NEVER BEEN FITTED TO A GUN? ALL OTHERS I'VE SEEN INCLUDING REPLICAS ALL HAVE THE LARGER HOLE ON ONE SIDE OF CROSSGUARD TO ATTACH TO GUN WITH . THE OTHER THING THATS DIFFRENT ABOUT THIS PHROBIS IS THERE IS NO HOLE IN THE BLADE FOR WRAPPING WIRE, ONCE AGIAN EVEN ALL THE REPLICAS I'VE SEEN HAVE THE HOLE TOWARDS THE POINT OF THE BLADE FOR HANDLING AND WRAPING WIRE. THIS KNIFE IS BRANDED

"PHROBIS INT" & " SPAIN"

BRANDED UNDER THAT, AND WITH

"U. S. A. PAT. - 4,821,356"

' BRANDED ON THE OTHER SIDE OF BLADE . THERE IS NO M-9 MARKING ANYWHERE LIKE MOST HAVE AND NO "BUCK" REFRENCE EITHER LIKE ON SOME MODELS . THE CASE (SCARABE) SEEMS TO BE LIKE THE EARLY TYPE FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN SO IN RESEARCH.

THIS KNIFE BELONGED TO A VERY SERIOUS GUN AND BAYONET COLLECTOR WHO HAD NOTHING BUT VERY RARE NICE PIECES SO I CANT IMAGINE IT NOT BEING SPECIAL IN SOME WAY BECAUSE EVERYTHING ELSE OUT OF THAT SAFE HAS BEEN. HE PASSED AWAY SUDDNELY A FEW YEARS BACK SO WE CANT HARDLY ASK HIM WHAT THE STORY IS ON THIS ONE. HIS WIDOW PULLS OUT A KNIFE OR A BAYONET FROM TIME TO TIME AND GIVES THEM TO ME TO SELL WHEN SHES LOW ON MONEY.THIS WOULD BE ONE OF THEM, PLEASE DONT BOTHER INQUIRING ON ANY OTHERS FOR SALE AS SHE IS TRYING TO KEEP AS MUCH OF THE COLLECTION TOGETHER AS POSSIBLE TO PASS DOWN TO THEIR SON , SHE ONLY SELLS ONE OR TWO NOW AND THEN IN EMERGENCY CASH SITUATIONS ONLY, BELIVE ME I'VE TRIED . SHES NOT BUDGING ON THIS ONE. BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY INSIGHT ON THE PARTICCULARS ON THIS WEAPON PLEASE E-MAIL ME BEFORE I GO BLIND THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

AND A

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY TO ALL!

Nothing unusual here

As you suspected, this is a standard Phrobis CUK.

Phrobis Combat Utility Knife made in Spain

The knife pictured is made in Spain. It is not the original one made in the U.S.A. The Navy Seal issued knives were made in the U.S.A. The U.S.A. Seal CUK is worth considerably more and are difficult to find. PanCanal
