Need help with changing drive belt

I am a beginner with the lathe and recently purchased a Grizzly G1067z. I need to change the belt and need some advice (the instruction manual doesn't have any information on belt changing)...

After I purchased the lathe I was fooling around with the speed and the spring came off of the shaft. I am unable to compress the spring while putting the belt and the spring holder back on. Any advice?

Thanks

Problem solved...

I compressed the spring and the fitting onto the drive shaft while holding it with a crescent wrench, this gave me enough room and time to put on the holding collar.

With this change I was able to realign the drive belt and make it straighter which in turn removed some pressure from the spring (which is why it came off in the first place)

apparently it was put on incorrectly the last time somebody changed the belt.
