.300 Whisper progress

So after getting .30 cal silencer last year I found out about the .300 Whisper and decided I needed one. Well as I was picking out parts I decided I needed to do something a bit different with this one. The big thing about the Whisper is that it uses all standard AR-15 beside the barrel. This means it uses the same mags and the ammo is obviously not the same. I knew I wanted to feed it from 20rd mag and decided to go with OD MagPul P-Mags. To make things look right that meant OD stock, grip, rail covers, ect.

The 20rd P-Mags were just hitting the market and the UBR stock was just released in black with other colors to follow soon. I called up MagPul and asked when the though they would have the OD goodies out and was told Sep/Nov so just a couple months. Then Nov 4, 2008 happened and unless it was Black or FDE forget about getting it and even then it was hard.

Well at this point I had and OD grip, OD rail covers. So I decided I could wait a bit. A couple of months ago I swore I finally saw OD mags in stock and went to order some a few days later and they were gone so I assumed I had misread. Well about 6 weeks ago the mags were in stock and I order a dozen. That just left one big part, the UBR stock.

While in my favorite gun shop yesterday he had one UBR on the shelf and it was OD. Said it was the first UBR he had seen and had just put it out. I snatched it right up and took it home with me.

Now the next thing I really need to spend money on is a scope for this. I need to get out good targets set up to 300 yard and record actual drop with the loads I am using. I plan on having a custom built reticle for this gun.

I am also going to Duracoat the barrel a matte black and do the flutes in MagPul OD green.

BTW the .30 cal silencer is very heavy at 26oz so I have a 9mm can on there now that weighs 9oz which is much better.

Here was my first post about this gun, http://www.quarterbore.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2223

Looks like a good set-up. My question is have you fired the upper? I tried PMags in my whisper .. and they wont feed due to the built in "lip" at the very front of the mag. Not trying to rain your parade .. but I think you are going to need some GI mags.

I have a couple hundred rounds though it. It is awsome

I got Pmags because they DO work. I have tons of GI 20's and they would NOT work for me. The edge of the brass would hit the edge of the mag and not feed at all. I tried several with the same results.

I am shooting the 220gr Hornady RN bullets in mine.
