help me build!!!!

ok, please bear with me as I am new to whispers and I am typing on an iPhone right now. I have a Grendel for precision work. I live in WA so no SBR! I want a supressed whisper. I want it as compact as possible. WA allows a minimum 16".

So I think if I want it short and suppressed, I will have to do a integrally supressed barrel. This will be for my AR by the way.
Now I know there is a lot if talk about gas port placement, but I have not seen it addressed on here for an integrally supressed rifle.
Here is where I need help, as much of this build is new to me:
if I have my own upper preference (HPI Rifles ,match with a side charging handle), all I need is a barrel and a machinist to do the integral supressor right?
So... In order to keep it at 16" what size barrel would you guys say is the minimum for a subsonic whisper only, and can anybody recommend a barrel/integral supressor/machinist combo for what I need?
Remember, this does not need to be a match rifle, so I can deal with lower costs for not having the best barrel/machine work. I did that with the Grendel.

So please help!!!! I want to build this baby and do it right. I need more help than what I have found perusing the threads on here. I have found nothing similar to what I want to do, so let's get some great ideas going on here. This will be a sweet project when it gets built. Please remember that I want it as close to "no shorter than 16 inches" as possible. :)

something to think about......I have read posts on other forums about people building rifles with a permanently attached suppressor on a 10" barrel to meet the no short barrel law (16" overall and only one tax stamp).....the end cap can still be removed for cleaning the internals.....

I worked with a manufacturer about 15 years ago to build a swiss cheese barreled integral suppressor, It worked OK....nothing spectacular.....much happier with the modern baffle designs....

I did talk to him, and he said he needs 7.4 inches beyond the gas port to do and integral suppressor. So, I was considering getting a barrel from AR15 barrels. What length do you guys think I should have the barrel made to, and more importantly, where should the gas port be. I have to figure this part out before I can have SRT do the sup.

First unless ar15barrels has filled his orders all of a sudden I would scratch him off my list maybe check with one of the other barrel makers. Since there is 1.625" of space in front the gas port that is occupied by the gas block you may want to get SRT to clarify if he needs 7.4" in front the gas block. That would make it about a 13" barrel at minimum. I would think they would take a 16" barrel ported in the standard pistol position and do whatever machine work is necessary to fit the suppressor since integral suppressors take much more work. For the tube size I would think there would be a step down for a centering/support bushing at the muzzle also and if SRT isn't machining the barrel they would need to specify what the step size needs to be and how wide unless they are using a threaded support bushing that fits a standard 1/2x28 thread. I am sure he will leave several inches of barrel unported in front of the gas block to give a long enough pressure pulse so it will cycle.

+1 on the 10-inch-barrel-plus-a-permanently-attached-suppressor route. Modern suppressor design negates any advantage the integral stuff had IMHO. It will be much easier to clean/maintain. In fact just pick the muzzle can of your choice and have it permanently attached to a Noveske 10.5 inch barrel. Viola, you're done. And that puppy will shoot. Just did this same type setup (on my SBR lower) without the permanent suppressor attachment. I am very pleased with it.

You can't shoot suppressors in WA right?

I had heard that you can own them, but you have to take them out of state to shoot them. Seems silly to me, but hey - VA allows you to own a RADAR detector, but not use it, so I guess all States hve some screwy laws.

that's correct. I live in Spokane right by the Idaho border, so I will just drive to a range over there when I feel like shooting. But if TSHTF, that's a different story all together......
