Magazine mod?? Feed issue

i figure it's a magazine modification i need to make...

will chamber odd number rounds(left side)but not even number(right side)

cheap(national)20 rd on sale @ midway

ok guru's, what do i need to do??

EDIT!!

i need to add, it's not a short stroke issue. i can pull the bolt back on an even number round and the bolt slides right over the round. take that round out and pull the bolt back and it will pick up the odd number rounds.

First you could make up a few dummy rounds for testing purposes so you can drop the bolt without worrying about it. When you say the bolt slides right over with an even number of rounds you mean when the bolt is closing? When the bolt is unlocked the bottom two lugs extend a good ways into the magazine. On a proper working system one lug will be in complete contact with the rim of a round. It is probably the magazine and it may be a combination problem. Pull the bolt back and lock it. Put the magazine in until it catches and see if the magazine has a lot of up and down movement even though it is locked in. Hold upwards on the magazine if there is up/down play and see if it picks up a round out of both stacks. Look closely at the feed lips on the mag and see if they appear to be formed even on both sides. Look at the bolt lug closely as it tries to strip a round off. Like said the part of the lug that sticks off of the bolt should be covered completely by the head of the cartridge equally for each lug but one at a time. Not going to post a pic but if you need it hollar

Pug is right. Sounds like a sloppy mag. The mag catch is on the left keeping the mag high on that side. You will need to bend the feed lips up a little so the round rides a little higher. Try these a 44mag.com 20rd Straight Body NHMTG They work great & arent too long for bench work for only $13 Ron

my first ar is a 308 dpms. got it about a month ago. you have to really press to latch a mag. the lower i'm using is also a dpms. you're right, it takes no effort to insert mag and it's a little loose. i tried bending the tabs up like you suggest but it didn't help. i'll try some others.

Ordered a couple of NHMTG 20 rd straight body from 44 mag. sending the other 2 back to Midway.
I'll just hand feed it till then. Need to get the barrel threaded anyway.
