another buck m-9 question

Hi, There is a m-9 phrobis on e-bay that the seller is saying was issued to the army. It has BUCK 188^ on the other side. My question is, was it possible that some of the buck marked bayo's made it to the military on accident? Because one of my friends was in desert storm and brought back two of these buck marked bayo's that he disassembled to get back in the states. He gave me one and he kept the other. Now he swears that these were issued to his army unit because one of them was his the other he got from another soldier when they got to come home. Could there be any truth to this? I didn't believe him at first, with what I have read on here and other places but with the listing on e-bay now i'm starting to wonder.

I suppose anything is possible. When the M9 was first issed there were a lot of people who wanted issue pieces. There were some guys who would switch out their issued M9 with commercial pieces. Let's face it, other than the marking on the blade and the cutter plate there is no difference between the two. So that's one possible way a commercial piece got into the Army supply system. I would be surprised if one got there from the manufacturer.

One other pointer; don't believe everything you read on ebay. I don't know the particular auction you are referring to or the seller and I am by no means questioning his integrity. Just in general, take what you read on ebay with a grain of salt.

Thanks, The only reason I even maybe beleived the guy on e-bay was because I think he is the same guy that is listing all of the phrobis chevrons. But yah I know what you mean about e-bay. That is why I come here to get my info. I wasn't by no means questioning your knowledge. I figured if anybody knew anything about the possibility of a mixup of some sort it would be someone here. What is it about the M-9 that makes it so damn interesting, I now own 6 of them and all I do is sit and look at them. At least with my guns I can shoot them!

Why do some people collect salt shakers? It's all in what you like. I collect all bayonets but have a particular interest in the M9. Have had ever since I held the first one I got back in 1987. One of these days I'll have to count them, but I know it's well over 200 M9s and probably somewhere around 1500 bayonets.

By the way, I didn't think you were questioning my knowledge. But don't ever feel that you can't question something I've said. I don't know everything and I do make mistakes.

With an awesome collection like that I doubt you make very many. I wish I could see all of them, if my wife has anything to say about it my collection won't get much bigger. But i'm always looking!
