Sometimes I wonder what people are thinking when they pay outrageous prices for things on ebay. That same bayonet sitting on a table at a gunshow probably wouldn't bring $300.

For those of you who didn't see it:

By the way, I contacted the seller and he does have the correct scabbard for the bayonet. He accidentially photographed the bayonet in the wrong scabbard and didn't realize it until after he posted the photos to ebay.

From a collector's perspective, I'm not so happy about what is going on ebay lately .
I mean, with people who are willing to pay so much money for a bayonet which (we all know) is worth MUCH, MUCH less the next time we'll see an USMC + the seller will put on it a reserve of, at least, $ 1000, thinking that it is a fair price........

So, it looks to me like there were four insane bidders on this knife and two of the four really need some meds... If anyone wants one of these knives in about the same condition I will sell mine for $2000

I took a second look at the (in)-famous auction "2000+ dollars Buck USMC"
http://cgi.ebay.com/RARE-GI-ISSUE-US...QQcmdZViewItem
Seems that something went wrong, as all the auction pictures had been replaced (now we have a 2000 dollars scabbard ) and there is no feedback left for the seller or the buyer....

I've corresponded with this seller several times over the years and I can tell you that he is a reputable dealer. He was just as shocked as everyone else with the $2000 auction result. I wouldn't be surprised if the high bidder backed out on the deal, but I haven't followed up with the seller to ask.

The pictures have been replaced because the seller doesn't keep the pictures from the old auctions on his photo server forever. He just happened to use the same file name for this scabbard that he had used for the M9 bayonet. I've seen this happen many times before, not only with this seller.
