Yes, I was aware of that completely, and still am aware of it
If you tell me you made $xxxxxxx income last year, and you got a refund check for $xxxxx, is it illegal that I know because you told me that info? Of course not.
What I suggested was a
user built registry, much like a classic car registry compiled of info
from the owners. It is a pretty common idea...
http://www.gti16v.com/gti16vor.htm or
http://www.directcon.net/lcshepp/PC800OwnRegFil1.html or
http://www.nationalcorvetteregistry.com/ and the like.
You don't give your FFL or SOT numbers, you don't give the purchase price, you don't tell the tax price (big shocker, we all pay the same tax
), you don't tell who sold it, you don't give your mailing address, you don't give the exact LL serial number, you don't give out anything very important at ALL, besides the fact you own one, and where you live, and an APPROX. serial number of the link you own.

That seems to be the case, which is OK as well, the only people who would care about a list like that would be lightning link owners, but if there is no interest, then there is no interest.
It would be giving no more info than owners do
now by posting something like "they are having trouble with their RLL in gun brand X and can anyone help, it is one of the later lightning links with the symetrical scallops so it'll go in upside down. Thanks JohnL in Arizona'.
Now, anyone with eyes can see someone named JohnL in Arizona owns a RLL with a higher serial number just by reading his post. That is all the more info that I suggested be added to the owners registry.
It had absolutely
nothing to do with the NFRTR or getting the info from the NFRTR itself, just info provided by the owner if he wishes
Anyway, it was just a thought, nothing more.
