I recently purchased a new front sight block for my AR-15. The old one doesn't have a bayonet lug on it and my new one does. My AR is an M-4 style and I just added the collapsible stock, now I need to get this new FSB on. Any tips on drilling those taper pin holes? I know I can do it, but I thought there might be a short-cut or something that might help. Thanks!
I would use set screws on the bottom of the sight. How do you determine the right location for right to left before you pin it? By going to the range and trying it out.Since the sight post is above the bore a hair move right or left equals one
foot at 100yds. Once made a daewoo barrel with the high front site post. had to
range test and make oversize pins.A definate PITA.
Thanks for the advice. It definately seems like it might be a PITA, but that's why I'm asking. Trying to get any kind of tips I can to make it a little easier. When you put the set screw in the bottom of the FSB, do you tap the barrel at all for the screw, or do you just tighten it up against the barrel?
Just tighten against the barrel. One set screw isn't enough. If you want to pin and have the equipment to do it right use the set screws for dialing in the sight.
Then drill and ream for the pins.regards.
