practicality of 25-.06 as short to mid range cartridge

I have a jones for a quarter bore, but my question(s) is this: would a 25-.06 loaded close to max with 120-grainers be too much gun for white tail inside 100 - 125 yards? Would there be quite a bit of bloodshot meat?

Also, would I need to use Partitions or similar to insure complete penetration?

Thanks in advance

NO

Probably

and probably......in that order!

Just bein' a wise guy! I know 100gr bal tips @ 3100fps still blow up on deer @ LESS than 100yds. I would think 120's (any of the controlled expansion varieties) would be a great choice, as would the .25/06. I LOVE mine, but only shot one whitetail with a 120 Partition. But was at 200 plus yards. Went through and killed him instantly. At the risk of sparking a major debate, I actually believe a .25/06 with a 120gr Partition loaded to 3000fps will work on anything in the lower 48, at any range from 3' to 300yds, and probably farther. That bullet has an extremely high sectional density so SHOULD ( I say should since I have very little experience with it on game) penetrate plenty deep for even the biggest of hooved critters if the need arose.

I would whole-heartedly recommend your idea, but that's just my opinion.
