Hello, I just recently picked this very knife up from Ray. I would like to add that Ray is a great guy to deal with by the way! ;-) Thanks again for a great deal brother!
This is my first Buckmaster 184 and definitely wont be my last and I couldn't be happier! I don't know why its taken me so long to get my first Buckmaster! But I do have some questions if theres anyone out there that has some "expertise" in this area and this particular type of custom run of Buckmaster 184 knife. This Buckmaster came with all the original paperwork, box, Custom Buck made leather sheath (still looks like it is brand new!) and a New plastic sheath with 1 pouch attached that doesn't look used either.
I am a hobbyist knife maker myself and am reluctant to mess with this knife for the time being until I gain some more information from the resident experts, but I like all the knives that I own in my collection to be mint if at all possible. The knife in its present condition I would consider to be in 95 percent + condition and for its age its actually in great shape! But it does have a few minor age/handleing issues. The Gold Titanium Nitrate coating (which I have literally no experience with) has a few marks on it. They can be best described as marks on the front side on the hollow grind and may be scratches and/or rub marks in the coating. May or may not be able to be taken off or buffed or rubbed back out. It also looks like at one point in this knifes life it made a trip into the hard shell case at least once. There are faint lines on the flats that are barely noticeable running lengthwise but they are there. Also at certain angles of lighting the titanium coating appears cloudy.
My question is this. Can a person use Flitz/BrassO,Rouge etc to clean up the surface of the Titanium Nitrate coating to make it shine again and get rid of the cloudiness? Can you lightly buff it (don't worry! I have many hundrends of hours at the buffer and know the dangers there!) to remove the haze without removing gold titanium nitrate coating etc?
Any info is appreciated.......
Thanks in advance, Jim
