Hi Rex,
you are very right about the small marks on the blade to test the hardness, but I was referring to the different "dots" you usually find on the pommell and the latch levers.
I create confusion as I used the word "dots" but, according to the manual (see below) the correct word should be
indentation.
Take a look at the following picture, where I marked them

and here is M9 technical manual (note that they use the drawing of an M7 pommell

It seems that the right release lever is supposed to be, actually, installed on the right side, as was the left on the left side.
