I personally did not want the hassle of notifying the ATF whenever I cross state lines with my rifle, so I chose 16" and decided not to SBR.

Hotlead.....thanks for the info. That's sounds like another reason NOT to SBR this rifle (as I think this is going to be a hunting rifle that I may use out of state.....didn't even think about the NFA-crossing state lines issue.)
Ok, well it looks like I need to get in touch with M1S and have them drill the gas port at the pistol position.
