If you are planning to shoot both supersonic and subsonic, then I would consider an adjustable gas block and pistol length gas system; supersonic only: carbine length is good.
I personally did not want the hassle of notifying the ATF whenever I cross state lines with my rifle, so I chose 16" and decided not to SBR.
