That's correct, this is not the proper scabbard for this bayonet. It is a standard commercial model (unless it has the Australian broad arrow mark near the BUCK).

I don't think anyone has a real solid idea as to how many of these were made. Lan-Cay made as many as they could sell, and if they were still in business I think they would still be making them.
