I just looked at my LANCAY M9's
I have three, all with indentations on the pommel. It's hard to see it on the one to the left in the picture, but it is there. Only the one on the right has them on the latches.

All of my Phrobis M9's have the indentations except for the one Pat. Pend. piece....
