These were actually made in China, not Japan. And they were not made for Phrobis or with any knowledge of Phrobis. The Chinese are notorious for trademark infringement.

I can't say with absolute certainty that no Phrobis/Buck scabbards had date codes, but I can't recall ever seeing any. The clips used by LanCay (and Lan-Cay) have a date code.
