I just ran a hundred85 gr. .312 XTPs through a Lee .308 sizing die to try in the Whisper. They sized down just fine - seem consistent. I'll try loading them over some Trailboss and see how they do....

Then having not seen the dies (or the Dillon trimmer for that matter), I may have misunderstood. I assumed what you get is a sizing die and a set of cutters, and that to use them you have to modify...

The pictures of your loading bench are nice and all, but how about some close-ups of what you had to modify on the toolhead / shellplate to get the .300W trimmer to work?

I'm planning on getting...

Shorter ribs (top to bottom), or just eliminate the front rib altogether?

These are of interest to me.

Okay. But the whole purpose for the .300 Whisper was to shoot heavy bullets at subsonic velocities. It's neat that the 300 AAC can push bullets faster. So can a .308, .30-06, etc. If I want...

Yep - I've had best luck with P-mags as well. I've got a couple of 20-round aluminum mags that I modded as well, but the P-mags just need the rib scraped off with a sharp wood chisel.

Yep - which makes things even better. If you use a hollowed out M16 mag as a brass catcher, you have the added benefit that it is also covering the ejection port, muffling port noise.

Yep - my SSK barrel shoots .223 & 5.56 brass just fine.

In fact, when CorBon first started making factory .300 Whisper (licensed through SSK, so I would assume it's to their spec, and would fit...

Sorry - zero expansion at subsonic speeds. This was shot into a row of water-filled milk jugs. I think it went through two and stopped in the 3rd (or maybe it was the 4th. It's been a while).

http://www.hi-techammo.com/ currently has some 147s listed at $58/500 or $320/3000.

Mine is from the recent batch a year or so ago. It's not the tight chamber. It was the brass. I had measured it and it was thicker than all of my other brass.

How old is "old"? I've got an SSK barrel that I bought 7 or 8 years ago. The only 5.56 brass that it won't chamber also won't chamber in my Noveske .300FB barrel. (and I forget what headstamp it...

Okay folks - here is what I found out. It wasn't the Noveske barrel. It was just certain brands of brass. And these particular rounds would not chamber in my Contender, either.

The ammo I'd had...

Can Noveske .300 FB barrels use 5.56 brass?

Like the subject says, can you use brass made from .223 / 5.56 in the Noveske .300 Fireball barrels? Or do you have to use .221 FB or neck-turn the 5.56 brass?

I haven't had a chance to put many...

For something that's not being run through a semi-auto, I've found AA#2 works very well.

Any of the faster powders should sound better than a slow powder (like N110). Slower powders require...

I am still working on loads, and I just bought 1000 surplus 147 gr. bullets to work up a cheap plinking load with.

I have tried using a 150 gr. flat-nose bullet for the .30-30. It cycled fine...

Yep. The Bowers can (mine is a .45) works pretty well.

But the Trident-9 is still noticeably quieter... and shorter.

Surplus bullets?

Anyone have a good source for surplus .308 bullets? I like shooting SMKs, but I'd also like to work up a good blasting load for the .300 Whisper. Commercial bullets are around $0.25 and up.

Anyone loading for Noveske .300 FB barrels?

Since Noveske has released a bunch of new .300 Fireball barrels, I thought I'd see if anyone had worked up any loads that were subsonic, and still cycled reliably in them yet.

I recently put...
