Anyone using a 308 suppressor for your 300 Whisper?
Good idea, bad idea?

What attachment?

I am thinking of doing a Gemtech with a Gemtech QD. This would be for a 300 Whisper, AK, M1A, and assuming I get one an AR-10.

I've got the new Gemtech HVT in QD trim. I have a mount on my AR10, and I will have one on my 300x221 (when I get it, hopefully soon.) Just push it on and twist 1/4 turn (or is it 1/2?) and you are GTG.

I use a Ase Utra "Z" Jet on my .308, and also on the .300 whisper. Thread on...works great.

I've actually decided to go with a 9mm can for my 300x221. Since I will only be shooting subsonic ammo, the pressures generated don't require the solid steel construction of a dedicated 308 suppressor. My HVT weighs 29 oz, which is a lot of weight hanging off the end of the barrel. My 300x221 is light and handy right now, so a lightweight suppressor won't upset that balance. I think the HVT would have better suppression, but it is also longer. That means more time for the bullet to transit the suppressor, and more time for it to strike a baffle...

I went with the Gemtech Trinity 9mm suppressor. It is rated for full auto SMG fire, and it has various back plates to allow a multitude of mounting options. I may find a tri-lock for my 300x221, then I'd have a QD version as well. I don't have the Trinity yet, and I know my paperwork will be delayed. I screwed up and only sent in one copy of the F4....:frown: It will get round-tripped so I file it duplicate like I was supposed to....

I ordered AAC Cyclone for mine - 5/8 x24 thread to use on AR10 - and get adapters for smaller threads to the 5/8 x24 can. Full Auto .308 rated and testing in .308 with standard nato and subsonic loads showed it did well in either area - some did better in super some did better subsonic but cyclone was in upper part of list for both areas. - very close to having it together now after over a year scrounging parts and waiting. :nanabang:

Well, my Trinity was approved on August 5th! I guess I didn't forget to include two copies of the Form 4. I must have gotten 3 copies from my SOT, thus explaining the "extra" I had. Now I just need to get my SOT to thread the 300x221 barrel for the Trinity. I've also got a 3 lug mount and 3 lug adapter for the Trinity coming. That will make it a QD can instead of a thread on!:nanabang:

Any of these situations using a bolt action? I'm curious how the supersonic rounds compare to the subsonic ones going through the cans?

Is the supersonic crack the dominating sound, or in the case of the AR's, is the cycling noise now the biggest concern?

The cartridge is a fascinating creature, with such an efficient use of case volume it would seem that scaled down supressors would be as effective as the larger versions rated for higher capacity cartridges.
