7 or 8 twist .308 win

I plan to build a 16" .308 win for double duty sub and supersonic. I am sure an 8 twist will work fine, I was wondering if any one has any experience with shooting 175gr matchking at approx. 2500fps from a 7 twist.(Accuracy Wise) Any supersonic info in a 7 twist would be apprieciated. I would like to stabilize a 240gr mk at subsonic speeds also, thats why I am leaning towards a 7 twist.

Won't a 1-8 twist stabilize a 240 gr at subsonic speeds?

By the way, AAC makes 308 in 1/8 twist:

Midway is out of stock. I'd have Spook build one. He is the man.

I agree, and he uses alot better barrel too!

Ours are nitrided and threaded to a drawing.

Match grade stainless will always be better, besides I doubt they are done to the same precision. Nitrade is ok if your running in a enviroment that requires it but otherwise its just a waste of time.

Before you wouldnot say who made the aac barrels, so what mfg?

The reason people use stainless is because it has less throat erosion than normal blued or phosphated 4140. The normal way to reduce that erosion in chrome-moly is chrome plating, but that adds a layer which may harm accuracy.

Nitriding chrome-moly results in even more corrosion and erosion resistance than stainless but without the accuracy-robbing layer of chrome plating. Stainless is not better than nitrided chrome moly steel, and AAC barrels are match grade. Also, AAC barrels are engineered to a drawing based on having the actual Remington 700 action drawings, and with the threads that are compatible with sound suppressors. If I said who makes them, our competitors would make a beeline for the same company and skip years of expensive testing I had to do to find who was best.

Spook, has been commissioned for the barrel build. 16", 8 twist, stainless, carbine gas system, for DPMS LR-308. The plan is to make it cycle with out help, I will be using an adjustable gas system to regulate the full power ammo.

Any idea if I could get a shorter barrel with that same profile like a 6 or 7in?
Obviously it wouldn't work with the group buy or??

Thanks,
Mike

ETA, how much to get it nitrided?

I should add, that is a LOT cheaper than the Shilen bbl I put on my Savage.
