Hi folks; My real name's Craig Butler, I hail from the west coast of Canada (Vancouver). I call myself 427Rat cause I'm a bit of an auto nut with a special fondness for big blocks.
My other interests include leather work, guitar playing (70's rock, jazz, blues, swing, big band) audio, video, guns, muscle cars and motorcycles. Living in Canada I cant really indulge a lot in fire arms. I'm into knives but I wouldnt call myself a collector, i dont have walls of them but whenever I find one that strikes me I grab it. I like the outdoors and 'roughing it' on week-ends usually looking for gold.
I found this forum while I was looking into the availability of Buckmasters (good luck:rolleyes: ) I see some of the members here had the foresight to grab them when they were available, oh well I'll enjoy looking at them. Well thats about it, Ive done a bit of looking and I can already see this is a well learned forum and I'm looking forward to learning a lot.

Hello to all. My name is James. I have only one Buckmaster 184 U.S.A. that I got in 84'-85' from a soldier station at Ft. Bragg. My cousin was in the 82nd. His friend needed cash so I got it for $50. My mom was not sure about it but with some sweet talking I got it. I'm not a big collector but have afew. This place has a great deal of info. Just found it looking for info on my buck 184.

What a great and informative site! This is my first post, so this may seem to be a dim-witted question and for that I apologize.

I have done some research on an M7 that I just now bought used. It was made by Imperial, and that is about all I know about it.

Everywhere I look the handle is described as "plastic" which is pretty obvious, but I am wondering exactly what type? I'm about 99% sure it is Bakelite based on a quick test I did, but I wanted to check.

Separately, and this may be useless info., but in case it is not, I thought I'd pass it along.

In addition to the used, surplus M7 I described above, Cheaperthandirt.com also has new, military surplus M7's available in original packaging. I ordered and received one and it is as advertised - I was very pleased. The options are:

M7 in original wrapping manufactured in 1974 for $69.97; and

M7 in original wrapping manufactured between 1988 and 1989 (this is what I bought). The price is $59.97

Lastly, the used M7 came from Cheaper than dirt as well, costing $29.97 including scabbard. The condition on the website is described as "Used Fair," but mine would more accurately described as "Used, Fairly poor." This is because of all the numbers ground in to the knife and sheath to identify it, along with the sharpie marker and plastic stickers. However, the bayo itself did take a nice edge - it is tough to beat 1095 steel.

Hello guys!
I'm tyler from New Jersey. While I've been collecting firearms for some years, I've just recently started to collect knives, and few bayonets. Then I've decided to collect compass to complete my tools. Then one my friend introduce button compass to add on my collection. What do think? I'm guessing some of you may share that opinion. I'm hoping to learn a few things here.
