10.5/11.5 Pistol Gas Barrel With FSB and CAR Handguards?

Will a pistol gas system fit under a standard carbine handguard?

Does, or can anyone make a 10.5/11.5/FSB length commando style barrel with a front site base, CAR handguard, and pistol gas?

I just prefer the corncobs over rails, and like iron sites.

Simple gas block will fit under carbine handguards.Used to do that all the time for the 30/221.

This is a 11" with mid-length handguards and a carbine gas system, but you get the idea...I just used a .850 gas block to leave a little bit of a shoulder for the FSB and handguard cup....perm attached 177 = a little over 16".....the same could be done carbine/pistol pretty easy....I just wanted the 177 to butt up against the FSB...Olympic Arms used to make an upper pretty much like you're looking for, although their "pistol" length gas system was a little different length than others....

Awesome, that's good news.

Kurtz, that's exactly the setup I had in mind, just the shorter length.

How bout this....How short in length can I have the barrel cut and threaded, while still leaving enough work room to permanently attach a suppressor?

I'm looking at the AAC Cyclone-K Which says it adds 7.5" to the barrel, I was hoping to have it welded on to make a length as close to 16" as I can. 9" would be nice I suppose, but would it be possible?

I can't do the measuring myself, since my 223 AR's are midlength.

tp555, you stated a "simple" gas block......I assume this means non-adjustable. I was hoping to use both sub and supersonic loads, do you think this will be a problem, or just hard on the buffer?

For years the only option was simple gas blocks.Port big enough to cycle subs and high speed threw the brass farther away.

That the only problem created, where the brass flies?......I can live with that, just don't wanna beat the crap out of the rifle.

Now, if I had the barrel made up, will it be tweaky and need tuning? Should I get the gun running before I attach the silencer? I'm wondering because SBR's aren't available to me, I'd have to build it as a pistol to start with.

Or is it pretty well a cut and dried barrel you can kick out?

I would consider moving to an NFA friendlier state before i would permanently attach a can to a barrel.
