AK Accuracy

I was thinking that before I do any type of finish on a new build, I would want to make any changes I could to help with the accuracy. I have no illusions of MOA accuracy, but I was thinking that something as simple as recrowning the barrel would be a big step forward. There are companies that will rent out the rechamfering tools for a very reasonable price. Does anyone have any other accurizing tips?

I think AKs are what they are. I've never seen anyone improve the accuracy, besides using some sort of optics.

Generally the 74s are more accurate, but still not near MOA.

I think you give up some accuracy for oustanding reliability with all AKs.

I wouldn't want to trade off reliability for accuracy.

If you want an accurate rifle you would be best off with an AR-15. A good milled AK will shoot pretty good but I don't think it is worth trying to make an AKM or AK shoot all that well. It's like the people that will spend big bucks to get a mini-14 shoot almost as well as an AR-15 shoots out of the box...

I have always heard that "good" accuracy from an AK, or an SKS for that matter, is about a 3" group at 100 yards.

That is well within the battle requirements these rifles were designed for.

Wow!

Thebest AK shooter I ever saw was a friend who showed me his AK snd put on fantastic shooting demo with it, but then he could shoot anything well. I think a lot of it is the man behind the gun don't you?

Yes, to a point.

A good gun cannot make a poor shooter shoot good.

But, a good shooter can shoot poorly w/ an inaccurate one.

Ak Accuracy

Far be it from me to interject my comments but...The weapon was designed to do just what it does...I have built and modified several types of weapons and the fact does remain you need to start with something worthy of your efforts...I have a great respect for the AK-47, but there is a time and a place for types of rifles...Spray and paint is that weapons claim to fame...

i would have to second that. . .from my experience training with them, they can handle alot but you wont get those 10mm groupings you can with a C7 (m4) at 100yard with 5 rounds

Well, I agree but....

I agree that you can not shooot too well with a poor gun but I saw a demonstration of shooting that had him hitting things I could not hardly see. It was with an AK and was after I made a foool out of myself telling him how inaccurate AK were supposed to be. I am not sure why his was better but the shots he made would be great with any weapon. I was very impressed and had nothing to say afterwards but , Gee! What great shooting. I don't have all the answers but I sure know what I saw that day. I wish I owned his AK and could shoot it like he did.
