Original Post by Porterkids:

The Australians also have a M9 with the same markings but a black oxide blade.

EDIT BY QUARTERBORE:

Bill Porter of the forums was generous enough to provide two photos of his M9. You can see that this is a Black Oxide finish with the markings as he had described above:

After being involved in the rebuild of the Aussie M9s over the years, all black blades are US marked. No 'crows foot' at all. The spare parts are all off the shelf buys from US sources.

So now you can have entire Lan Kay knives w/scabs, or entire Bucks with scabs, or Bucks with new LAN KAY blades and scabbards, LAN KAYs with buck scabbards, and a total mis-match, wishy-washy combination for rebuilds. There is no replacement 'acc' pouches for the Buck scabs. One still encountered the original Bucks in the system, in various stages of condition.

Some units have also engraved local 'serial numbers' too, on the blade

However on the M7 bayonets in service here in Australia, they are as fol:

- US marked (Conetta, Gen Cut, etc) in M8A1 scabbards
- US marked (as above) in black US M10 scabbards
- US manufactured but Aussie marked (Crows Foot) on quillon (no other makers marks) in OD M10 scabbard with Crows Foot' mark
- or any combination of the above

When one goes to the local gun shows, sometimes there is the odd KCB-77 (Some Aussie marked, but Solingen manufactured, other no markings), and these go for under $100AUD.

There can also be a host of M7's, some US and some Aussie marked, again for under $100AUD. Even the odd Canadian Nella C7 bayonets. Plus on the odd occasion M9s, mainly of US origin under $175AUD, but the odd Aussie contract one for under $250AUD. All used of course.

Sadly now there is a selection of inferior Chi-Com copies, of which I have had a close view, and the ones I seen are simply crap.

Hope this info is useful.

I am suprised about the black Aussie contract blade! So, I guess I stand corrected. Of the thousands of M9s I have seen, I have NEVER seen one of these, which leads to a possible hybrid prototype or something. Who knows?

The recent M9 Aussie bayonets which have black blades are the latest Lan-Cay types with the latest scabbards, all in OD plastic, adn 100% off the shelf products. No Aussie markings at all.

I have found this (very) old post in the www.bladeforums.com website.
old post
....seems that (at least in 2000) nobody was sure about the blade color (bright or black) of the M9 Aussie contract.

Since this is a old post here is a picture of my Australian m-9 that I acquired. It is a bright blade also.

These are the original pictures the australian seller sent me (I still don't have a digital camera, so I can't provide pictures from myself).
After a bit of cleaning my bayonet looks much better now!!!!!

Currently I am 'negotiating' on a unique Aussie M9. Just how much I am either going to trade or deal out the dosh is still in question. I hope to have it here within a couple of weeks. It will be coming from the Perth region.

It has the standard Buck blade with Aussie contract proof mark, but the MOLLE scabbard, latest crosspiece, and 'ergo grip'. I am assuming its a parts bayonet made up of the latest stuff (might be the way of a change coming - or who knows), and either way, it will go well into my collection of US M9's. I do know its all new, which is good, but I prefer used ones with that been there feeling.

So before I 'commit' (I am there pretty much now), does anyone have a clue or ball park figure what this is worth in USD?

So far, I have thrown in a current new and unissued AUSCAM para smock, Canadian Para smock (my old one), and British para smock (2 Para, used), plus some badges, etc.

Hoping for some good feedback here, and should the deal go thru, I'll be posting somes pics for all to see.

Cheers,

One last thing. I have a used Buck OD Aussie marked M9 scabbard I am seeking to trade for a OD US Buck scabbard, also used.

I can't seem to find a board for such, and if I have done something wrong, mods, please delete or move to the right spot.

I'll get a few pics of the scabbard, and if anyone can help me out, please either email me, or respond to this.

Australian Mismatched M9

My personal feeling is that the M9 you're describing is worth less than an original "as issued" Australian M9. I've seen the Australian M9s sell for anywhere between $225-450 USD depending on condition. I think the top end one was a bit high, but that was an ebay auction and we all know that anything is possible there.

"Unnaturalone" sells a full complement of current M9 parts on ebay. It would not be difficult, or expensive, to make the modifications you've described.

Hope this helps. Contact me off forum about the scabbard.
